Maureen Hughes
FEATURED ARTIST (On Display)
Dr. Maureen Hughes is a lifetime artist, selling her first work at the age of 13. At the age of 17 she decided to pursue an education in the sciences, rather than going to art school, and at 27 received her doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis in 2003. She started creating beaded jewelry while in grad school. In 2010, she started painting again, starting with the OM symbol which was deeply related to her journey with yoga. She then went through a phase of highly abstract work, characterized by alternative reality landscapes. 2020 brought the pandemic and some other wonders coming out of her mind and onto the canvas. She has created a series of works she calls the "guilded cage". Her art is an extension of emotion, focusing more on color placement with her abstract works.

Bonnie Belle Belly Dancer
FEATURED DANCER
My name is Bonnie, and I am a semi-professional belly dancer. I'm currently looking to start teaching belly dance in the St. Louis area in addition to opportunities to perform solo belly dance shows.
I go by the stage name Bonnie Belle, and have been active in the local belly dance community since 2014. I specialize in a more contemporary form of belly dance known as Transcultural Fusion Belly Dance. People have described my style of belly dance as sultry, mermaid-like, sweet but also a little sassy. I am known for having a graceful, elegant, and somewhat regal stage presence that audiences have described as quite captivating.
In terms of dance education and training, I am currently certified in Rachel Brice's 8 Elements of Belly Dance and April Rose's Dance Cohesion in addition to being a certified Level 2 Technician in Belladonna's Bohemian Blade program. I have also studied other forms of more traditional Middle Eastern dance such as American Cabaret Belly Dance, Egyptian Raqs Sharqi, Saudi Khaleegi, and Turkish Romani. In addition to all that, I am proficient in dancing with various props, including but not limited to sword, veil and finger cymbals.

Featured Poem by Poet Daniel AndrÉs Brown-Schnurr
“Home”
Life is an eternity of Experiences
And in the blink of an eye
An endless entourage
Of lessons
To be learned
That lend lanterns
To lead us.
Afforded only
A fragment of flint,
We’re forever fighting
To feed and fuel
The flickering flame
That is our soul,
Subconsciously
Searching
For self worth
And Significance
Thereby Seeking
To sustain
A stable sense
Of spiritual sanity.
Though somewhat
uncertain,
We suddenly see
The only solution is to
Shed and shake off
Our shadows,
The very shackles
Keeping us confined
To the coarse and calliced
Walls
Of this comfortably
Cozy cave
We ironically created
And inadvertently
Came to call
Home.”
